PROSPECT.1 is the first of a series of International Art Biennials that descend upon the City of New Orleans every 2-3 years in the late Fall/ Early winter seasons. This event was curated by Dan Cameron in 2008 and featured 82 contemporary artists.
My contribution to the Biennial was a suite of small to medium-sized wood construction sculptures that grew out of the narrative of destruction, survival, and revival in post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans. The series features table-top sized works, but each sculpture has a monumental presence. The surfaces are painted with colorful graffiti tags as well as local dialogues of frustration with the rebuilding process. The tent-shaped objects are hybrid forms that represent house elements combined with boat elements.
